5572.  Lord Houghton to RB

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 31, 240.

[London]

[Postmark: 21 March 1865]

Very sorry not to see you here today. Walter Landor’s [1] address is

Lay’s Hotel, 8 & 9.

Surrey St. Strand.

I found him quite lonely, in a wretched tenant–room—far from well—not knowing a soul in London. I think that you & Forster—as antient Landorians—should look after him.

Yrs truly

Houghton.

Address: Robt Browning Esq– / W 19. Warwick Crescent. / Upper Westbourne Terrace.

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Rutgers–The State University.

1. Walter Savage Landor (1822–99), second son of Walter Savage Landor and his wife, Julia (née Thuillier).
