My dear Browning

I suppose the worthy Jowett thought a little ceremony proper toward you and sent the enclosed consequently.

Tennyson has been up in town and has been staying on up at Hampste[a]d on purpose for the pleasure of going to Oxford with you and seeing Jowett. He is now gone to Farringford and he writes that he fears there is no Oxford for him, which I know will disappoint him. I have not seen him so pleased with a notion for some time.

Roundell is a remarkably fine character—if you do not chance to know him–
