My dear Chapman,

Thank you very much for the Books [2] —all right now.

I really don’t know how far there is any real care here about Azeglio’s Memoirs [3] —they would interest me much,—and, I suppose, come at the right time: but all the friends of mine who feel as I do, understand Italian and would not require, nor indeed look at, a translation.

2. Presumably the second edition of A Selection from the Poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, which was issued by Chapman and Hall in mid-November (see The Athenæum of 10 November 1866, no. 2037, p. 617).

3. I miei ricordi (2 vols., Firenze, 1867). Chapman and Hall published a translation by Count Maffei in 1868. Massimo Taparelli d’Azeglio (1798–1866) died in January. His memoirs were edited by his daughter, Alessandrina Ricci (née d’Azeglio, 1833–84).
