Dear Browning

Some excellent ladies are getting up an Institution for the protection of young Women, especially servants out of place, & are trying to get funds for it by the help of a book which is to be published under the name of “Authors of all Nations.” [1]

The contributors are to be the most eminent authors of all nations. It is to be dedicated to some Crowned Head, & its circulation is expected to be very great especially at the Exhibition of All Nations [2] to be held this year at Paris.

I have been especially asked to beg a contribution from you. Pray send us something—however short—

How is your boy, & when does he enter Cambridge? [3] I am afraid he has had to part with his beautiful long tresses before now.
