My dear Browning
This is just a word to say that I expect to be back on Thursday or Friday next– And that in any case I shall expect to see you at 6 on Sunday at Palace Gate House–
You will probably hear, if you are calling in Weymouth St today, [1] that the man Payne has submitted, makes all the reparation demanded, and pays all Costs. [2] I had a telegram on Friday, and sent the substance of it to Procter–
I reserve all the details until we meet. But I may say at once that if he should attempt to get the Costs out of Mr Locker—I trust that this will be resisted. You will see, by the papers I show you, that these Costs would have been entirely inconsiderable but for the shameful outrage committed by the man himself—in the letter to which I adverted when I last wrote to you, and which, by my request & direction, was set forth in this Bill which my solicitors filed in Chancery.
Love to your sister & Pen. Tomorrow I go to the George, Northampton,—and I hope it will be my last town in my pilgrimage. [3]
