Balliol College, Oxford,

Oct. 19. 1867

Dear Mr Browning

I have the very agreeable duty of informing you that the Society of Balliol College, at their meeting just concluded, did themselves the honour of electing you an Honorary Fellow of the College–

The position has neither duties nor emoluments attached to it. But it implies the same social privileges which are enjoyed by the actual Fellows–

I trust that you will kindly enable me to communicate to the Society, when we meet again, your willingness to accept it–

Believe me, Dear Sir,

Very sincerely yours,

Robert Scott
