RB writes: “You probably think my own susceptibility excessive and my complaint superfluous; if so, I hope you will in turn excuse what was the consequence of my being taken altogether by surprise with what I fancied perhaps a more serious imputation than it proves to be.” [1]

1. This letter was probably addressed to James Claude Webster (1830–1908), secretary of the Athenæum Club (see SD2954).
