1. Year provided by Mrs. Bloomfield-Moore’s reference to Keely’s “Global Liberator,” first mentioned in 1885.

2. This conclusion of the letter is written on the inside flap of the envelope, only a portion of which is extant.

3. Eight inches of snow fell in Philadelphia on 3 February 1886.
