My dear Mr Boyd,

I certainly did intend to go to see you last week, notwithstanding your assurance to the contrary!–

Yesterday an illness under which our servant William is suffering, was pronounced to be the small pox. You will not therefore be desirous of having us near you,—neither will the Miss Heards. Will you give my kind remembrances to them, & say to them & yourself that if it should please God to spare ourselves from this disease, I hope it will not be long before we may go to St John’s Wood without danger to any of you.
