My dear Miss Barrett—

Pray disabuse yourselves & do not persist in thinking me as ignominiously afraid of the small pox.– Within a day or two of my having called on you, I have not myself been out of the house– A cold (accompanied with all sorts of biliary derangements, and tongue white or brown—and yellow eyes) has been my malady–

Day by day I have been expecting to be well—but I am now getting more knowing and perceive that if I am to know anything of your household within the coming week—it will not be by personal enquiry.

Favor me with half a dozen words to say how you all are.
