Correspondence

631.  EBB to Mary Russell Mitford

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 4, 32.

[London]

Monday. [May 1838] [1]

My ever dearest friend,

I write one word to say that I am not ill—or worse—indifferent to your illness & dearest love to me, & all dear Dr Mitford’s kindness in pulling the violets for me. How can they fade in the glass, & I not have thanked him? Thank him for me, will you? & as you only, can.

I have been breathless with business such as it is, these two days—but will write to you at length either tomorrow or Wednesday. Say Wednesday & forgive

your own EBB

Publication: EBB-MRM, I, 71.

Manuscript: Eton College Library.

1. Dated by EBB’s preoccupation with seeing The Seraphim through the press.
