Mon cher Amédée,
Faites-moi l’amitiè d’accepter le Poème que je vous envoie: [1] c’est un effort pour contenter presque tout le monde, et vous savez comme cela réussit ordinairement. L’essentiel, c’est de vous avertir que nous avons changé d’adresse et que nous demeurons à New Cross, Hatcham, Surrey—vous prendrez le Kent-Road que vous savez,—vous en irez jusqu’au bout—et le premier sentier à haie verte et à droite vous conduira chez nous: c’est une vielle maisonnette avec un jardin et des petites collines tout près—que nous serons heureux de vous y voir!
En attendant, recevez les salutations les plus cordiales de toute ma famille—et n’oubliez pas de presenter mes hommages à Me la Comtesse [2] —votre enfant [3] se porte toujours bien, j’espère.

My dear Amédée,
Be so kind as to accept the poem I am sending you: [1] it is an attempt to satisfy almost everyone, and you know how successful that usually is. The main point, is to inform you that we have changed address and that we now live at New Cross, Hatcham, Surrey—you take the Kent-Road that you know,—you follow it to the end—and the first path on the right with a green hedge will lead you to us: it’s an old cottage with a garden and low hills close by—how happy we will be to see you here!
Meanwhile, accept heartiest greetings from all my family—and don’t forget to offer my respects to the Countess [2] —your child is still doing well; I hope.
