Thursday, Oct. 13.

Eliza went away soon after breakfast; & Bummy & Henrietta went away soon after her, to call at the Bartons. I begged Henrietta to close with any proposition made by Mrs. Griffith on the subject of taking me in her carriage tomorrow as far as Mr. Boyd’s. Eliza promised to try to persuade Mrs. Cliffe to call here in her carriage at ten. So there are two chances for me!—

Mr. Curzon arrived at two; & he & I were tête à tête until five or near five, when H & B arrived. They have been to Colwall Green to invite Mr. & Mrs. Deane to dine here on Saturday; & to Colwall, where Mr. Martin has warned them off his premises by frigidity & rigidity. Bummy is clear on the point of his disliking her.

i am neither frigid nor rigid; it wd. be an improvement, were I a little of both; and Mr. Curzon may wish me to be much of both, rather than inconsiderate enough to forget his luncheon. How careless I was! And how hungry he must have been!—

Miss Gibbons is to be at his house tomorrow, & baptized on Monday! And on Sunday, I am permitted to divulge!--

A great deal of talking between Mr. C & me about election. I wish my mind were more settled on that subject.
