Friday Novr. 5th. [sic, for 4 November.]

My cold has increased, is increasing, & ought to be diminished. I could scarcely speak this morng.

No letter. I went to bed at nine, & read till half past ten—read Greek!— Finished Plato de legibus; that is his Xth. book. The passage like one in the Psalms, which Mr. Boyd repeated to me, about δικη,[1] is the finest thing in it. I do not think that it can boast of many very fine things.

1. “Cause.” The word appears 6 times in Bk. X of De Legibus, and 5 times in Psalms; we cannot identify the particular passage E.B.B. had in mind.
