Monday. Dec. 5th.

Sent my note, had an affirmative answer, & walked down to the gate with Bummy to meet the carriage. The worst of it was, that Mrs. C & Eliza made another proposition to meet mine, namely that they wd. sleep here—because otherwise they might have been benighted in going round & round on my account. Agreed to, of course: but, thinks I to myself, if Papa were to arrive on Tuesday Morning & find them here!--

Well! but I had a pleasant three hour visit at my dear friend’s house. I was in his room before he was; & when he heard my voice, he smiled as if in pleased surprise. He wished that I could have come in our own carriage, & have stayed later!— We talked a good deal—yet not a word about — — what I dont want to hear. I wonder whether some people are penetrating.
