Saturday. Sept 17

Today’s account, will not end as yesterday’s did. And yet, it is possible that there may be no letters. No letters. I have been reading the new Testament with its comparative evidences, today, all day. I cannot—the word is correctly said—I cannot make up my mind from Scripture, to do otherwise than embrace the doctrine of general redemption. Perhaps the cannot may be reversed some day; and yet how is it possible to understand otherwise than I do at present, the latter verses of the 5th. chapter of Romans; tho’ Mr. Boyd’s argument on the ‘οι πολλοι, is certainly rendered null & void by the occurence of that expression in the last verse of the second of the Second Epis: to the Corinthians.[1]

Maddox came, which is the beginning of a pleasant dream; namely that I shall go to Malvern with her on Monday. Shall I? can i?

1. II Cor. ii.17: “For we are not as many [οί πολλοί], which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.”
