I have finished my translation. 1075 lines of Æschylus translated in a fortnight. And I think I am satisfied—tolerably satisfied. But the original is too magnificent for translation.

Mrs. Cliffe & Eliza came. Nota bene Mr. Davis’s coming too. It was odd & cool. Nothing in this world can be at the same time, odd & cold. I dont admire Mr. Davis as much as either Mrs. Cliffe or Eliza does. He does not suit me. He is talkative & forward & pedantic & self complacent. He does not suit me. Slept here,—& kept us up previously in an awful suspence, until nearly two— Too bad!— Intensely stupid evening. Eliza was at Malvern on Tuesday. Miss H M is to stay until April & take Annie with her.
