How extraordinary it is, that Papa shd. take no part in the Church missionary society today. But I am glad of it; for last year, what a scene there was in consequence of his doing otherwise. I believe he has sent his subscription. His not going, & Bummy’s going, make me feel confident that something is coming. Bummy told me with tears—“nothing shall induce me to remain away from you longer than Tuesday”. Dear dear Bummy.
They have been dragging the pond—Sam & Stormy in the water. I have been reading Pindar’s 9th. Olympiad, & must go back to it. Pindar’s subjects are of little interest to my mind. Arabel has written to Annie, observing upon her want of memory in the late affair. That is certainly the mildest construction; & is perhaps, the true one.
