[Perugia—Sunday, 1 April 1860]

Sunday April 1st Palm Sunday. There will be great festivities in Rome today. Stopped at Perugia to see the Sala del Cambio and a few of its many treasures. There was a grand review of Swiss soldiers just under our windows and among them Annie Howard’s captain. He came and spoke to us. His confusion betrayed him at once as the author of the letters and amused as we were by the interview I ventured to write to tell Mrs H. upon our arrival at Florence.
