Saturday 12th Breakfasted with Mr Jones and met Lady Harington, Sir John, and Mr Massingbird . A very musical party but interested in everything and very kind to us. Called on Mrs Bensusan and Mrs Procter who is helping Adelaide’s new volume out being “the business member of the house” as she said. Went to dine with the Trollopes. I sat between the novelist and the historian or biographer, I should say, at dinner and heard many good things said and felt the strong kindliness of feeling which animates the atmosphere of both the brothers.
