[London—Wednesday, 16 May 1860]

Wednesday 16th Went into a magnificent uptown church calling itself Protestant with all the Catholic ceremonies going on. Had a short call upon Mrs S.C. Hall. She was most affectionately attentive to us and we find we can’t help liking her extremely. Went to hear a fine concert where there was a delightful chorus—also Ronconi—Madame Strossi &c. gave us solos. It was held in the new hall St. James, built by Owen Jones and is truly an exquisite specimen of architecture.
