[London—Friday, 4 May 1860]

Friday 4th Mr Crosland went with us at 12 to see the great London docks. They are 11 acres in extent holding 30,000 pipes of wine. From thence to the tobacco warehouse where we found a quantity of excellent goods burning up in the Queen’s tobacco pipe because they were found contraband. We found Mrs C. waiting for us as we returned to lunch. We enjoyed a chat and afterward went to see the Tower then again joining Mrs Crosland we went to their house in Greenwich to supper with P.J. Bailey the author of Festus.
