Oct. 6. The ladies went to Long Island to see the conscripts drilled. They discovered the following facts.

Blue stands for infantry

Red stands for Artillery

Yellow stands for Cavalry.

A simple square on the shoulder and no bar Second Lieutenant

One bar—Lieutenant

Two bars—Captain.

Gold leaf—Major

Silver leaf—Lieut Colonel

Silver eagle—Colonel

One Star—Brigr General

Two Stars—Major General.

Today they have begun to tune the grand organ. If no accident occurs Miss Cushman will read the ode.
