Monday Nov 9. Sat for the 3 time to Mr Rowse for portrait. He is eccentric but true and interesting. Not a fanatic about anything but with a smothered enthousiasm of his own which challenges respect.
Lucy Larcom sent me Miss Waring’s Hymns—A few good—the feeling in all deeply lovingly religious.
Re-reading Madame Sand’s wonderful “mémoires” she says “Le génie vient du coeur et ne réside pas dans la forme.” Many lives have passed through epoques without learning this.
