[Boston—Tuesday, 14 February 1865]

At Christmas We had a tree and large number of merry children. Jamie Beal cried out—“Jolly Uncle ’Eeees give me the firs’ pesent”.

Mr & Mrs Emerson and their children passed the New Year with us. A happy inauguration! Lissie Winthrop and Bessie Johnson were here also and passed the week.

Sarah passed the two suceeding weeks here then came Mrs Hawthorne then Mrs Stowe which brings us to the middle of February.
