Sep. 8. Richard H. Dana called to see J.T.F. who recalled to his memory an interview he Mr Dana had years ago unwittingly with John Brown and asked him to write it out for the “Atlantic.” He seems pleased with the idea and says he will do so. (It was in the woods in Vermont where he was traveling with Theodore Metcalf.) Mr Bartol & Jamie talked during the evening about several interesting people. Speaking of Mr Bancroft Mr B. said that talking with Mr Emerson one day of his cold eye, “yes, said E. holes in his head—holes in his head!
