[Boston—Wednesday, 7 November 1866]

Nov. 7. The days slip away without my finding opportunity for record. The weather still wears a soft summer loveliness. This morning Mr Whittier breakfasted with us and looks better in health. Ristori brought letters to us and we shall endeavor to get up a recitation from her for the benefit of the Freedpeople.

I am sitting to Lissie as model going many times to see Ristori and have new servants—of course my time for study is curtailed.

Jamie is every day occupied with interviews with interesting people which I lack time to record—one with old Peter Harvey the other day reflecting Dan. Webster and giving new anecdotes I especially wished to set down in freshness, but Mr Harvey will probably make a book by and by. Mrs Fletcher Webster is anxious to take the “Works” from the hands of Little and Brown to make some additions herself and have T. & F. republish. This they will not consent to do out of friendliness to the others.
