[Boston—Thursday, 19 April 1866]

Thursday April 19. Excessively warm! Went to dressmakers then out to mother’s and gave her dinner, then in to the last Symphony concert with Jamie. The music was exquisite and I said, when I am dead if there are any here who still love me I wish for burial service the “Andante” from Schubert’s Symphony in C major.

Walked home with Mrs Silsbee responding to talk about “society” and things mean. It was weak in me not to refuse such talk, I should oftener do this for Mrs S. is capable of better things. Jamie went to the Club in the evening at the house of T. Cushing Jr. a palace, making the scientific talk, which was especially interesting seem weird enough.
