[Boston—Thursday, 26 April 1866]

Thursday. Mother for the day. Read Bayard Taylor’s story of Kennett in the evening (while Jamie was at the Club) and liked it better than I had hoped. It is a carefully studied picture with one thoroughly lovely character.

Dr Jackson spoke one hour on mining and mineralogy in the evening and Dr Hayes told them the Cochituate water was perfectly healthy and clear.
