[Boston—Friday, 18 January 1867]

Friday. Lissie & J. really fought their way home last night through the snow drifts and were wet through nearly all over. Carriages refused to go out. Such a storm has not been seen certainly for eleven years. The papers are full of tales of the struggles or disasters of travellers by land and sea. The rail roads are stopped, many people being detained out all night.

The Quincy’s were to have come from Quincy to dine with us today, also Mrs Hawthorne & Rose were to have been here. In spite of the snow Una started yesterday, was taken in at a farm house in Watertown for the night and surprised us by appearing in town today. She passed the night. One of the fine Harvard Musical concerts Camille Urso having been detained in the snow Carl Rosa played with great energy and perfection.
