[Boston—Sunday, 27 January 1867]

Sunday. Perfect day. Mr Winckley preached at Mr Bartol’s church in aid of a new Pitts St. Chapel. He asked so simply and yet so ably because of the divine truth which he felt to be behind his words that he carried the people with him. He will doubtless receive the $40,000 he asks.

In the evening we had a little reception. The old poet Dana & his daughter Miss Mackay the singer of Spanish songs, a Mr Ford, the Aldrich’s, Miss Vernon of Newport, Georgie Stowe Allen, Mrs & Miss Kellogg (the singer) & Louisa’s family and mother. We had a right good time.
