[Boston—Wednesday, 20 March 1867]
Wednesday. The Quincys’ came and we had a social happy hour or two. Their life is a healthy one. They live in a small cottage on the large estate in Q. and carry on the farm. They have three pretty and intelligent children whose physical education is much improved by their country life and she finds time for music & to take breath beside which it is doubtful, & more if she could do in town. They told us that the believers in the Frothingham philosophy, having sent a huge volume explaining their doctrines to the Pope & the French emperor have now followed their books intending to preach their philosophy as they go. Mr & Mrs Williams and Mr Frothingham are of the party and I know not who else.
Mrs Quincy is deeply interested in music & comes to town every week for a class lesson with Mr Dresel—he is chiefly occupied in the pursuit of farming.
