[Boston—Wednesday, 22 May 1867]

Monday May 20th Jamie went to New York. The rain began soon after and with snatches of intervening sunshine has lasted until today Wednesday 22d when the white cherry blossoms came from Aunt’s beautiful tree through the drops. The wind is east; there has been no seed planting yet—but the grass is looking beautifully. June will excel herself.

I am trying to finish Virgil (I have been all winter re-reading the Ænead merely) and set the house a trifle in order preparatory to our flight. Lissie and I breakfast at 7 and the days seem wonderfully long for Boston in consequence.
