[Boston—Thursday, 13 February 1868]

Feb. 13. The grand ball of the season comes off in Boston tonight. We shall prefer to stay at home.

Last evening J. passed at Longfellow’s. What a good good time they all had!! J. read my letter from Dickens which delighted them all, for they are strong adherents and lovers of C.D. out there, Lowell, Norton, and the rest.
