[Boston—Sunday, 15 March 1868]

Sunday. Yesterday Saturday March 14th the first vessel went down the bay to the sea. Earlier than last year, but it seems as if Spring were here.

Mother & Sarah are passing the Sunday here.

Just as we have decided not to go to Europe the report has gone over the country (for country read a small part of gossiping Boston) that we are to go with the Longfellows. However I believe that is settled now. Today in all the warm sunshine Dickens is at Niagara and next Sunday he is to be with us again.
