[Boston—Wednesday, 18 March 1868]

Wednesday night. Katy the chambermaid ill in bed 3 days, doctor each day. I have been out less than usual & miss my walks, together with dress making, French, Katie ill, and today pleasant visits from Celia Thaxter, Mrs Agassiz & Mrs Lowell the time has gone fast enough. Tonight too came a dear note from H.B.S. on her road to Florida with some fan she has been painting for the Cretan fair. In all the swirl to rush I know the underlying rest—God help me to hold fast!
