[Boston—Thursday, 11 June 1868]

Thursday June 11th A letter from Dickens Tuesday! And such a letter. Yesterday we passed at Whittier’s. He showed us a plate sent him from the wreck of the Palatine.

Dined at Lowells Thursday with Mr Quincy & an old painter by the name of Hill whose lovely water colors we saw. The rain poured heavily but we had a delightful visit.
