[Oxford—Wednesday, 24 June 1868]

Wednesday. June 24th At Oxford. A little town on the Connecticut of surpassing loveliness. Here we found the dear Bartols & Lissie Greene. With the help of a country photographer they have been taking marvellous pictures, worthy in form, design of Alma Tadama, Millet, and the rest. I am anxious to have some done to send to England.

This is a still sweet place, between the Green & White hills.
