[Venice—Monday, 30 August 1869]

Monday. Very warm floating about in a gondola and on the Piazza except the first half of the day which we spent before the glorious pictures of Titian, Bonifacio & Tintoretto in the Accademia.

What a day it was! The beautiful women with their black veils and gay dresses, the heaps & heaps of luscious fruit upon the quay, the gondolas, the bright blue water, who can ever tell the charms of Venice!!!
