[Paris—Tuesday, 14 September 1869]

Tuesday. Hard at work shopping. For the succeeding 5 days until Saturday night we have averaged 6 hours in a cab and several hours beside, choosing clothes & having them sent home, for Louisa, Sara, mother, one or two things for outside friends and last not least for Mabel & myself. This has necessitated driving a good deal about Paris and the weather for the most part being lovely we have learned the gay aspect of the shops and find much to amuse & relieve the tedium of the way.
