[Boston—Wednesday, 7 June 1871]

Wednesday. Still very warm. We dine at 3 and afterward drive or walk about a little. Thinking of the Erie Railroad scamps, Jamie says the bible writes “Buy the Truth and sell it not.” The Erie men say “Buy the Truth and sell it out for a profit.”

He is very bright and full of life but suffering with touches of pain which trouble me a little.
