February 16. Mr. James read his paper here upon Emerson—33 persons present. Holmes, Weiss etc. a brilliant company.

Whittier was here at breakfast Friday morning. Fortunately there was no school in the P.M. at North Street. Whittier told us of his interview with Robert Dale Owen, the ghost seer the previous night. He longs to see but cannot.
