[Campton—Friday, 14 June 1872]
Friday A.M. still hang about although I think the rain is over. The river has not risen again since night before last when the railroad was swept out for two miles. But the earth is at last water soaked once more. The people all speak of last year’s drought here as something terrible. There was no grass & man and beast panted and suffered the live-long summer.
Yesterday Mr. & Mrs Burnett & daughter, (Mabel’s new father & mother) made their appearance here. Also Mr & Mrs J.A. Lowell & daughter & this morning Mr F. Jaukson—but the solitude has been for the most part unbroken.
Today we go to Willeys in Campton, for a week.
