Friday. Clear and very warm. Drove with Mrs Towne to Essex where we found an old house over a hundred years old and saw the ancient spinning wheel.

Read “Pastorella” in the afternoon on the Knoll with Miss Howes and Miss King came over from Beverly to call. They sat there with us & saw a sublime sunset.
