[Boston—Monday, 26 May 1873]

Monday. Mrs Hemenway came in early to say the Hampton singers were to be at her house in the afternoon and would we come. We had already arranged to drive out with Miss Clara Doria but we arranged to go there first. We found the beautiful house thrown open in lovely summer dress, fresh green leaves peeping in at the windows and far better, fresh warm hearts all about us—Mrs Putnam, Mrs Whitney, Mrs Claflin, Mrs Baker, Mrs Paine, Miss Lowell, and a crowd of others whom I love to remember but cannot name. We left early but it was a pretty festival and a lovely idea.

Mr. Emerson is expected home today.

Miss Doria came home to tea after our drive.
