[Boston—Saturday, 6 May 1876]

May 6. Awoke with a bad cold, feeling poorly. It is rather an inconvenient time to be ill, just as we are about to leave for Phila. I presume the cold comes quite as much from fatigue as anything—so I will rest today.

Miss Alger left. Jamie returned from Hartford. Did not go out, but people came at intervals to see me all day. A spring rain—outside—everything is sprouting.
