[Manchester—Friday, 23 June 1876]

Friday. We drove together yesterday and made several calls on neighbors and friends.

Today the weather is June’s most lovely gift thus far, and the voice of the sea calls from the shore and the laugh of the bathers.

Wrote “After a Dreamless Sleep” & called on Sophie Darrah at Mrs. Dame’s.

At noon Boylston came with his family and rejoiced us both by his enjoyment of the glorious scene and our lovely home.
