[Manchester—Tuesday, 4 July 1876]

Tuesday. July 4th—A radiant day after yesterday’s rain. Everything has been burned by the drought here but today is clear and glorious.

Sarah & Lenore Bigelow arrived to make a visit. Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Inglis called before dinner. Mr. Hunt came with Miss Alice Towne & Miss Rose Lamb in the afternoon. The whole horizon blossomed with fire works in the evening in honor of the Centennial Fourth.
