[Manchester—Tuesday, 26 June 1877]

June 26. The sky has changed. Clouds and easterly winds prevail. We have given up going to the Shoals for the day. The President, Mr. Hayes, entered Boston. We were invited by Mrs Alger to stand on Mrs John Lodge’s balcony where we were proud to stand and greet the fine procession. Gov. Rice and the President drove together. Mr. Rice pointed out my husband so we had an especial greeting—also from Carl Schurz.
