Monday—party at Bottina.

Tuesday started for our dear home; weather a trifle warmer but I was ill miserably ill all day in the cars and was like marble, from cold when I reached my bed. How good it seemed. How good home is! How dear for the love that haunts it.

Tuesday Jan. 15 [sic]. Mrs Stowe came to visit us.

Friday. Mr Appleton, Mr Rowse, Mr Gay dined with us—& Mr & Mrs Spofford, the Kelloggs & Aldrichs came in the evening.

Saturday. Damp & warm. Took tea at the Holmes’s, delightful evening.

Sunday. Heard E.E. Hale preach. Company at night. Cold. Adelaide Phillips sang “Auld Robin Gray” exquisitely and the Governor was “as jolly as a brick.”

Monday Evening. Mrs Stowe and I sat till after midnight over the fire “Harrieting” as she says Mr Foote calls it, and as Mrs Howard says “hawking.” She told me about Fred Olmsted’s love for Emily Perkins (Edward Hale’s wife now) and how she found him preaching in his love-letters and...

Tuesday. Went to the Minots, saw Miss Sedgwick—delightful.

Wednesday. Mr Appleton came in at night for an hour.

Thursday. Mrs Quincy’s for the evening.

Friday. The opera.

Saturday. Making calls.

Sunday. Church & home.

Monday Jan. 28 [sic] calls. Gail—dear Mary Dodge came for the night.

Tuesday. Past half the day with M.A.D. Mrs Johnson’s little party for Sarah & Mrs Stowe in the evening.

Wednesday. Calls & errands in the morning. Dante Club in the eve’g for which Jamie was too tired.

Thursday. Mr Howells came from New York to see us and passed the night.

Friday. Prof. & Mrs Stowe came directly after breakfast and left for home after an early lunch dinner at one.

Saturday. Feb. 4 [sic]. Bessie Johnson & Anna Verplanck will come to pass Sunday.
